Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar
At the Institute for Biomedical Sciences, we’re transforming research and education at Georgia State University and beyond. In the lab, our extraordinary scientists are working to solve some of the world’s most urgent health issues. We’re responding to the pressing need for research discoveries that can directly benefit patients by developing new vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics that can target an array of critical human illnesses.
Using cutting-edge techniques and advanced facilities, our stellar researchers are tackling serious diseases such as COVID-19, influenza, sexually transmitted infections, gastrointestinal illnesses, autoimmune diseases and more. Many of our research projects are supported by federal funding, demonstrating the quality and significance of our work. We’re also tapping into the power of collaboration and teaming up with colleagues in the United States and around the globe to enhance our research capabilities.
In the classroom, we’ve taken an innovative approach to education, combining studies in biomedical science, business and law to provide our bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. students with the comprehensive knowledge needed to excel in the biomedical field. For instance, our Ph.D. students are mentored by world-class scientists in the lab, but they also receive vital instruction on business and entrepreneurship that teaches them how to take discoveries from the bench to the bedside. Students are prepared to be creative, critical thinkers that can solve real problems, as well as equipped with diverse skills that help them stand out to leading employers.
The future is bright for the Institute for Biomedical Sciences, and we invite you to learn more about our pioneering research and academic programs.
Sincerely,
Jian-Dong Li, M.D., Ph.D.
